Carter Edie's Costly Error
There isn't a lot going on right now but Carter Edie cost his Interclub Squash Team 1 point by not renewing his Squash Alberta membership. Could this point cost them a playoff spot in April???

GO RIDERS
The Calgary Longhorns would like to congratulate the Saskatchewan Roughriders on making it to the Grey Cup. The Stamps were overrated and now all the fans can get off there band wagon

Golf Tourney Wind up
The Golf Tourney was another success. It has taken us a week to piece together what happened. Jade, Carter, Charlie and Rex won. Albo and some other guy, I can not remember who, won Long Drive and Closest to the pin. There were a few shot guns, Turkey Dinners and a ton of guys with a light buzz, The highlight of the night was on the Party Bus home (it had 3 stripper poles). After a valiant effort by all the guys to try stripper moves with no success a 17 guy Battle Royal occurred. Witnesses say that it could have been the gayest thing they have ever seen. 17 guys rolling around the ground with no shirts on wrestling and sometimes even biting. All in all it was a great night but we might have to find a new venue after Rex streaked down the 18th hole with just Speedos on.

2009 Golf Tournament
Our 3rd annual golf tournament at Springbank Links is just around the corner. The real question is.. Which foursome is going to win the honor of wearing the distinguished Green Jackets from our sponsors; Value Village. Only time will tell. Better get thirsty my friends.

Cocks pumped Pirates in two
Congratulations to the Gamecocks for winning the league. I am told they kept the Longhorns tradition of having champagne with trophy going.

Team-mate of the Year in the Sunburst League - Lance Romanchuk
I thought there would be no more posts until after the golf tourney. Our good friend In Fort Sask made some pretty bold statements that I must respond to. Before I get into that it sounds like he is a really good team-mate, I guess most guys were right about him. In regards to the best hitter stats here are a few I quickly pulled up. He was 14th in his own league and even better than that 6th on his own team. If you move his average over to the FMBA, which is the best league in Alberta, he would rank an impressive 51st. Yes Fort Sask is the best team in Canada and by the looks of the competition out there, they would have won without you. Oh, I almost forgot to mention our head to head record but you all ready know that. Then I began to think maybe they lost because you were not there, so I checked the game sheets. To my surprise you played, how could this happen? Is it possible to lose with the 14th best batter in the Sunburst League? I guess it is. As for you winning MVP they say a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then

Night Night at the Bates Motel
The Acme fans wanted me to put something on the website so I will. I must give credit to Acme for making all the plays and stepping up in a big game. I do not think they made a error and Mr. Bates threw strikes. On the other hand anyone watching that game knew that the Longhorns blew it. We CHOKED in the biggest game of the year. We win as a team and lose as a team. Unfortunately that is a very disappointing way to end the season. Trying to 4 peat is tough, so is winning our 12th championship in 16 years, that being said we will be back next year. I want to end the season on a favourite quote of mine " Life is too important to take too seriously. If you learn to laugh at yourself you will enjoy a lifetime of entertainment". Stay tuned to see what happens at the Longhorns windup.

Price Check - Game 2
Chad Price pitched well only giving up 7 hits. Not a good time to lose our first game since July.12th. Not much happened on our end other than T-Roy continuing to play centre field on the warning track. Almost forgot about Paul Reid's toe pick, yard sale missed routine pop fly. Game 3 on Saturday hopefully we bring our A game

Semi Finals vs. Acme - Game 1
In what could be the quickest game in FMBA history 1 hour and 10 minutes we won 5-1. Teddy pitched outstanding and K'd 13 Pirates. Now that Kuzek has rediscovered his love of baseball, he continued his torrid hitting streak by ripping a triple and a single. Jade Alberts added 2 more BB which gives him 40 for the year. T-Roy has the play of the game. He still does not know what happened but somehow he tried to hit the second baseman after not sliding and it was a bad decision. Not only was he thrown out by 10 steps but this guy, who is the largest second baseman in FMBA history, just folded him. We do not like to chirp Acme as I know they read this, we like them plus use it for motivation but it has to be done. I do not know who this catcher thinks he is but I am sure he is only playing because Hunter can not make it. A little FYI for you when you pick up the bat you do not have to be a dick and throw it at our feet. Just hand them to us like everyone else in the league does including our catchers.

2009 National Champions
A Congrats goes out to Fort Sask for winning the 2009 National Championship. They did it with the help of 2 players from the FMBA (the 5th best league in Alberta)

1st Round - Playoffs
The journey of tears has touched the Dinos. They didn't put up much of a fight, despite calling us Bush-League several times. They should probably just "turn the page" and shut their pieholes. The final score was 15-2 and it didn't really seem that close. Myhre pitched well for the victory. There was some comment about the Handsome Swede making opposing pitchers gay or something like that as well. Further research is currently on-going regarding that one. Next up: Not sure yet.. Either the Acme Pirates or the Wolfpack.

Quarter Finals vs. Dinos
The Dinos sure like to chirp. We do not mind teams that chirp but before you can do that you actually have to accomplish something. Ulmer mowed them down for the third time this year but he only K'd 11 of them. Last time he struck out 13 Dinos so I guess they improved by hitting 2 extra cans of corn to the outfield. There false hope started in the first inning when they got a run and we went down 1-2-3 in order. Unfortunately for them the second inning arrived and we send 13 to the plate and scored 7 runs. The quote of the night came from a woren down "FAT" Darren Fech as he commented about how it took him 8 years to learn that he can not throw a fastball by the Longhorns. Our defence was a little sloppy and both there runs came on errors. Albo continued hitting tear by going 2-4 with a triple.

Games 23 & 24 vs. Dust Devils
Game one was closer than expected but we emerged with a 6-5 come from behind win. Fechy stuck out 8 and pitched a gem. T-Roy combo bat throwing swing streak continued today and now sits at 3 games. In game 2 Big O mowed them down and K'd 8. The highlight of the night (HON) was Kuz's BOMB with his new favorite bat. Welcome to the homerun chase. THE JOURNEY OF TEARS BEGINS

Fort Sask Forum Rebuttal
Cut from there website "I would love to see them step up to AAA Provies. They're missing a lot more than just jam, or jelly, or any other spread used to make sandwiches. But, from the looks of the weights posted on their roster, they definatly haven't been shy with their sandwhich intake, that's for sure."............................................................................................ This guy was chirping the spelling and said I had only had a grade 3 education. As I stated before I received my grade 10 in Sunnyvale. You are more of a Cyrus who never made it out of grade school. You are also still bitter after getting kicked out of the Trailer Park. I know the Trailer Park you are in now is not as good, but suck it up. Remember our head to head recorded is Longhorns - 2, Fort Sask - 0

Game 22 vs. Wolfpack
The team that got off to a hot start continued it's slide into the playoffs. We handed to Wolfpack a 9-0 lose as the game was not close from the start. Albo and Carter stayed hot going 2-4, while Coach Rexy was 3-4. Ted struck out 8 in the win. T-Roy continued his bat throwing swing ??? I do not know what you call it but he hit the ball and the bat ended up in the other dugout. On another note I see Fort Sask is pretty concerned with out website, maybe they should start thinking about Nationals. By the way I got my grade 10 in Sunnyvale.

AAA Provincials
For the second year in a row we are undefeated against the AAA Provincial Champions. Red Deer Riggers beat the WORLDS LEAST INTERESTING TEAM Fort Sask Ass's sorry I mean A's. There must have been a carnival in town that threw Fort Sask off there game. Hopefully Fort Sask pick up a new team when they head out to Nationals, so they don't embarrass Alberta baseball.

Games 20 & 21 vs. Acme
All I can say is there were 2 great games played today. Game 1 was all Jason Ulmer as he mowed Pirate after Pirate down making them look silly. He ended up with 13 K's. In game 2 we were down 4-1 going into the bottom of 7 and scored 4 runs to win it. They started the inning off with a error and that lead to there downfall. With runners of 1st and 2nd Peaches dropped down a bunt catching them off guard to lead the bases. With 2 oouuuuuut and the game tied Carter (who is on fire right now) ripped a single for the game winning RBI. Big O picked up the win even though his attempt at a intentional walk ended up hitting the mascot at the back stop.

Name Change
The Calgary Longhorns would like to announce the the player formerly known as Mike Byers is know known as Michael Angelozzi.

Monday Provincial Game
The Calgary "Overrated" Cardinals are taking on the Calgary "only Senior AAA team in the city" Redbirds in a Provincial game. We are hoping that the Redbirds show up as it is a important game not like pulling the shoot at the Red Deer Stags Tourney. Come on out at 6:30 for a few DRINKEY POOS.

Game 19 vs. U of C
There was a lot of chirping coming from there bench. They would say we can easily put up 6 on this guy, this league is just average...........well hopefully these young bucks can make the playoffs. This is not the Sunburst league you need to play good games every day to be over 500. They will take there 12-2 boat race and hopefully will have better luck next time. Ulmer rolled them over only giving up 5 hits, all bloopers and striking out 6. The highlight of the night came when Kuzek got caught in the tree when we were leaving Beckham's. Please take a look at it the next time you are there it is massive, well so is Kuz.

Games 17 & 18 vs. Dukes
It was not much of a challenge as we outscored them 26-3. Lots of hits, walks and stolen bases. Lars (The Worlds most interesting man) had 4 hits, Jade Alberts had 4 hits and 2 SB's, Paul Reid had 4 RBI, Arne had 3 hits as well as 3 SB's, Albo had a single , double and a triple. Kuzek had a stolen base and Rex was the only person to get caught stealing. Cater had 2 hits, Peaches had 3 SB's and a triple. Joyce. Teddy and Fechy all threw well and only gave up a handful of hits over the 2 games. Paul was caught checking out 2 skids with long hair coming down the path on there skate boards. He did not know they were dudes until we pointed it out. The bone head play of the game goes to Jade Alberts as after stealing second and making it to third on the over throw he stood off the base trying to catch his breath and was tagged out. He thought he called time but obviously did not and the coach (Darren Fech) did not help him, he just laughed.

Game vs. Cardinals
A big 7-1 victory last night over the Cards, led by the pitching of Jason Ulmer. Ulmer struckout 10 and gave up only 5 hits and no-earned runs in the win. Arne Larson led the way offensively, going 3-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Jared Albo had 2 hits and made his catching debut for the Longhorns as Carter Edie was hurt. Carter may get Wally Pipped. Paul Reid also had a couple of hits, the acupuncture on his shoulder obviously helped after the weekend injury he suffered sliding into home. Once again we had a short bench, with only 10 guys showing up plus an injured Carter Pipp. Coach Rex wasn?t too pleased about the turn out, but got over it in a hurry when he become more concerned with the divots the Cards portly 3rd baseman was leaving in the shale. Along with the big win, we got to drink a few Brewhouse and watch the Gunz take ground balls after the game on the field. It just doesn?t get any better than that.

Longhorns Tourney 2009
The tournament was a sucess once again. The Calgary Cardinals won on the strength of their 2 pitchers and some timely hitting. Congrats to them, it's good to see the FMBA being represented well. We lost in the semi-finals. But onto more important things... The greatest team ever in the history of baseball in Alberta (according to them) made a less than impressive showing. The Fort. Saskatchewan Chokers, err, Athletics showed that past performance is a good indication of the future. They made an unceremonious exit by going 0-2 and being eliminated. It looks like they won't be invited back due to their poor on-field play and lack of support when it comes to the beer-garden. We wish them all the best in the future. There is little doubt that they can find some other tournaments where they can be more competitive.

Game 14 & 15 vs. Chiefs
33 runs for and 7 against that tells the story. The games were pretty uneventful even though we still had 9 guys. Big O hurt he knee pitching and could not continue so Fechy came in but more impressive were Big O's 2 AB's after hurting his knee. As we only had 9 he had to stay in so his first AB he laid down a perfect bunt and walked directly to the dugout and his second AB ripped a single to right field and could have been thrown out if that guy was not so brutal. The Cards were in the stands causing sweet havoc with classy, well timed down to earth comments. It brought smiles to our faces in otherwise a boring 10 innings of ball.

Game. 13 vs. Outlaws
This game could arguably be the worst game ever played in the FMBA. We were down 8-1, then up 14-8 and held on to a 14-13 win. Our pitchers walked 14 guys with Joyce handing out them 10 of them and they were no better by walking 10 of us. Our bats did wake up from the weekend though as we had 16 hits. It was rainy, windy, cold and at points we were standing in the field for 20 minutes watching the pitchers and catchers playing by themselves. By the way the games last 3 hours. The game ended in a perfect matter when they had 2 out with a runner on first. The batter would have hit a single but the ball hit Pinchy (Outlaws base runner) for the third out. Thank God this game finally game to a end

Game 10 & 11 vs. Diamondbacks
Lets just say this is the year of the Lack of Commitment. No names but 3 guys did not show up for game 1 and we were less than 5 minutes away from forfeiting. Needless to say we spotted the Diamondbacks a 6 run lead and could not recover. We did have 5 errors and one snowball fight which did not help things. Game 2 was not much better as we left 14 runners on base (game 1 we left 11 runners on), our bats were terrible. T-Roy came out of retirement and gave up 3 bombs and they were no doubters. The quote of the game came from a Diamondback where he called the dressing rooms a squatters " JACK SHACK". In a nut shell we were brutal and the DB made us pay. Hopefully we can start getting more players out because it is becoming a disgrace.

Saskatoon Tourney
We got games in and the rain did not show up until Sunday. The Saturday morning game was a tough one but we pulled out a 6-4 win. Joyce struggled on the mound walking 6. Jade Alberts had a double, single and 2 rbis, he also made the longhorns catch of the year. Playing first the ball was hit in foul territory and running back dived and all 220 lbs were parallel to the ground when he caught it. Any other first baseman would have made that catch look routine. In game 2 we played the Stallions and came up on the short end losing 4-3. We gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th but it was a great game. As usual there was a lot of fun that can not go on the website. The highlight of the tourney came from the Cards game when there second baseman who was on first was trying to score on a ball hit into the gap. He toe picked coming around third and looked like he was swimming down the third base line before he fell flat on his face. The catcher walked out and tagged him on the head, it was the funniest thing I have seen in years. He was lucky that the game was at 3pm and not 9 as there were only a few chirps from the beer garden

Game 9 vs. Gamecocks
Jason Ulmer took down 7 cocks last night in the win. Teddy got the K-LID again

Red Deer Stags Tourney
The weekend can summed up with the Phrase of the weekend "I do not know how you guys do it". Three separate people said this to us on how we play ball after ripping it up. We lost to the Stags on 7-1 Friday night. We picked up Aren Nelson and he had a tough night walking 9 and making 2 errors otherwise the game was pretty close. Saturday afternoon we beat the St. Albert Tigers 10-5 and the highlight from this game was Ted striking out 4 times but he pitched a great game. All teams ended up 1-1 in our pool but we got second based on runs for and against. On Sunday we played the Red Deer Riggers in the Consolation game and beat them 4-3. Big O pitched a great game. Jared Albo made a Longhorn record 6 errors in one game and we would have turned a triple play if he did not throw it into right field after finally making a play.. He said he had a hang over but he barely drank the night before. Jade passed out in the lobby with his eyes open and was covered with chips and dip when Rexy was nice enough to take him up to the room. Lars who got ripped Saturday night at his in-laws, on red wine, did not look Handsome. He had a awkward Dos Equis moment, stay thirsty my friends.

Game 8 vs. Dinos
We were looking pretty good going into the 7th with a 7-1 lead. Jason Ulmer was throwing great striking out 13 to this point. Unfortunately with 2 outs in the 7th he ran out of gas as the Dinos scored 5 and head the tying run on 3rd. Coach Kinaschuk, who is having a tough time this year dealing with the lack of commitment from players, brought in Jared Aldo and he K'd the final out (it was that guys 4 strike out of the night). Joyce had a big day at the plate going 4-4 with 2 rbis, we can now stop chirping him about using his new bat.

Fort Sask - Wikipedia Review (Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)
This is right off of Wikipedia website and it explains a lot. Fort Saskatchewan is home to the Fort Saskatchewan Athletics of the Sunburst Baseball League. Former college and professional baseball players make up the core of the baseball club. It is also known for its flock of 50 sheep that roam its downtown park throughout the summer months eating the grass. The city mascot is a sheep named Auggie.[4]

Games 6 & 7 vs. Mighty Mets
There is not much to say other than we out scored them 28-1 in 10 innings, they are just brutal. Jade Alberts came back down to earth while playing second, he played a game of soccer all by himself and booted the ball everywhere. The big hit of the night was by Lucas as he smacked a bases clearing triple. The game was boring, some guys at times were taking naps on the bench and they stats were not very accurate. Thank god we will not see them until next year. The only interesting thing that cam out of the game was the Longhorns pre tournament rankings were announced. We also had to take into consideration the Fort Sask remarks on there website. They obviously did not like losing TWICE to us. Here is the post on the site "I guess that's what happens when you lose to ****ty baseball teams. Now they think they are good. Wrong! ****ty team, ****ty players, fat messes, no class..just a ****in joke. I'm embarassed". Other than that quote being classless here is or take on Fort Sask - THEY ARE A GOOD TEAM IF THEY HAVE A 11 RUN LEAD -------------------Cards - 2 to 1 ----------------- Oyen - 7 to 1 ------------------------ Longhorns - 10 to 1 ----------------------- Stags - 20 to 1 -------------------------- Redbirds - 30 to 1 ------------------------------ Fort Sask - 49 to 1

Game 6 vs. Cardinals
Add another lose to the column as we fell to the Cards 3-1. Teddy had a tough first 6 batters but after that he shut them down. Albo got his first RBI of the year while Kuzek and Joyce got there first hits. We had a 5 batters get 2 strikes but the K-LID stays in the bag for now. The defence was stellar, as Lars made beautiful diving catch in right field and Jade made a few nice plays at second. The young Cards pitcher was good tonight and shot gunned 8 beers after the game, thank goodness he had a few Nathan's Hot Dogs to balance those out. We lost the battle of the funniest website but we will get another shot at this title later in the year. Up next the NOT SO MIGHTY METS

Game.4 vs. Gunz
It was all Jason Ulmer as we won 4-0. He threw a one hitter and struck out 9. I forgot there are no more K-LIDS as Paul and T-Roy got hits. T-Roy does need a new pair of spikes as he got a walk and as he proceeded to make his way to first he toe picked and ate the shale at home plate. I am sure it was one of the better moments in T-Roy's career

Game.5 vs Gunz
It was another victory by the score of 19-10. This could have been the most boring game in the entire history of baseball. Lars hit 2 lasers off the fence, I guess his guns are just for show. The highlight of the game was Mike Byers. I making his first appearance in almost 2 years he was a machine. He had 2 singles , 2 base on balls and the best toe pick / break dance we have ever seen. He was trying to catch a ball I can not even put it into words how funny it was and or how he did it.

Game.4 vs Gunz
It was all Jason Ulmer as we won 4-0. He threw a one hitter and struck out 9. Other than that the game was pretty uneventful

Gane 3 vs. Wolfpack
We have equalled our entire loses last year 2 games into this season by losing 3-1 last night. Lets just say the bats have not come around yet as we had only 3 hits (Lars, Peaches and Rex). We are not known for great starts, 2 years ago we were 2-4 and then rattled off 23 wins in a row. Paul still has the K-LID and T-Roy did not show up so he has it as well. Big O threw for us last night and beaned 5 players. That equalled his entire total from last season and you have to remember he hit 3 Mets on purpose (they still do not know why). Jade Alberts had another 3 walks bringing his season total to 5. The quote of the night comes from Big O. We were chatting in the dugout and someone said Rex had a great BP when they threw to him, Big O stepped up and said "It looooked like he was on a skateboard when I threw to him". Rex was batting at the time and he was definitely on a skateboard as he struck out in 3 pitches.

Game 2 vs. Outlaws
Big win 11- 0 and gets us out of last place. Lets get the K -LID talk out of the way first. Carter got a hit in his first AB so he got rid of it, while T-Roy (Gonzaga Alumni) and Paul (no Alumni) still have it. The first bomb of he year was hit by Jade Alberts. It was a monster shot of approx 450 feet and in a rare appearance at second base he turned a DP and made all the plays look routine. In the outfield Lars Hasselhoff went with no sleeves in plus 5 degrees weather. This really threw off Fechy in centre as he could not track down any balls (Lars beat him to all of them). In a post game interview Fechy was quote "Every time the ball was hit all I could picture was Lars running down the beach and showing off his guns". It was Teddy's 37 Bday and got a BJ at Beckhams.....we are all happy to see him make 37 and hopefully he will be around one more year.

Game 1 vs. Gamecocks
It did not take us long to lose our first game, we fell to the Cocks 9-2. I am told we had a impressive day at the plate by racking up 3 K LIDS. Not surprising that Paul was one of them but Carter and T-Roy (Gonzaga Alumni) joined in the party. Usually we have 1 or 2 the entire year but 3 in one game is awesome. I hope it takes them a month to get a hit. We have to spread them throughout the batting order as there is only one K LID for them to share. Another great moment in Longhorns history

2009 SEASON PREVIEW
Well the season starts in one week. The big question is can the Longhorns roll over everyone again?????? We have added the U of C Dinos to the league and they are a formidable foe. The Cards are not young anymore..... Hans is still leading the charge but the young Card look ready and buffed. They have been having 6 practices a day for over a month now. Can the Dukes crafty 50 MPH Lefty hand us our only lose? The Cocks have a lefty that throws as hard as the leagendary "Sid Finch"....we will see about that. As for Acme they will be ready to go after seeding season. How many burgers will Kuzek eat this year now that he married, will this change his philosophy??? Will he have to switch over to Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs as they will be sponsoring the Longhorns??? There are so many questions and only time will tell...........LETS PLAY BALL

Kuzek's Stag
It did happen last night but do not remember a thing........we all had a lightbuzz

KUZEK'S STAG
Well this is a day that we thought would never come.......Kuzek's STAG. His brother Dallas is setting it all up and they are going to start at the Stampede Casino around 7pm. They are trying to book a party bus to take us to the peelers and then a bar.

Babies and Weddings
Congratulations to Peaches and Jillian on the birth of there baby girl Camden. On another note there is a third wedding on the horizon, Luke Boulter is getting married on Apr.15th.

Longhorn Wedding Bells
There are a few weddings on the horizon. Congratulations to Bryson Kuzek and Charlie Hinton.

MEETING
The Longhorns AGM will be held on Wednesday Mar.11th at Beckham's Pub @ 7pm.

Line Up Changes
The Longhorns have lost a couple players from there family. Charlie Hinton has decided to retire, I guess his 34 plate appearances over 2 years or $21 each time stepped in the box was not enough to keep him around. He is welcomed back at anytime. Bud Eisthen has decided to move to Lethbridge and go to school. His departure has drastically raised our average age. Buds youth, girlfriends bikini and stories will be missed. On another not Mike Byers is back in Calgary and is looking forward to playing ball again. Mike's cost per plate appearance over the last 2 years is $39.

Longhorn Avoids Fine
First court appearance for a Longhorn in the off-season ends positive, Jade Alberts had his $300 urinating in public fine thrown out as the Cop did not show up. He received this at a Stampeders Tailgate party and obviously could not hold in, but he also feared contracting Uromisitisis.

I have broken down the contracts we have left
Arne - photo says it all has to hang around until someone comes close to beating him at shotgunning ~~~ T-Roy - 5 years left as he did not pitch last year ~~~ Fech - 8 years left (2 years for each kid) ~~~ Big O - know that is his power swing is back lifetime exemption ~~~ Paul - free agent can leave at any time ~~~ Kuz - his option to leave kicks in when is under 200 pounds ~~~ Rex - as soon as we lose we do not win the league his option kicks in ~~~ Lars - his option comes of age when we get a player that in more handsome then him

Merry Christmas / Happy New Year
The Longhorns wish all viewers to our website a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Hopefully Santa is good to all the FMBA teams. They should ask for luck or a wing and a prayer because they are going to need it.
